Higher Education - a public Good or a Commercialized Affair

A good part of the fastest growing global business market as more and more students heading abroad to find and pursue specialized courses in their respective fields.

There is a growing debate complex and is poised to qualify for training as a business or a public good, there is a fundamental right for all. Evidence on education (especially higher education) may be a public affair, and as a commercial operation is equal in number and also in effect.

In general, universities and academia would like to see higher education is considered a public good (like the traditional view of education as a fundamental right of every person.)

However, the argument that prevails in the Secretariat of the World Trade Organization is that higher education is now more like a "private consumption", which directly benefits consumers through higher income generation and sustainable.

Universities of Latin America in April 2002, Portugal and Spain adopted a statement on the 3rd Summit of Iberian and Latin American Universities in Porto Alegre, Brazil, who have declared education as a public good "and urged their governments to do not compromise on this issue at the WTO.

However, the perception of higher education is more than a commercial service that the public good is gaining greater acceptance of overtime. The WTO Secretariat in September 1998 indicated that the rapid changes in the law-abiding connection and operation of higher education is now available in private consumption, which is the price determined by the duration of free institutions, which offer students want. They said, a result that pay more and more to the students of these institutions, including foreign students.

Thus, education is a public or business marketing is still a debate without states and satisfactory conclusion.
